Lion's Mane is a culinary and medicinal mushroom studied for its ability to stimulate nerve growth factor, with possible benefits for memory, cognition, neuroprotection and mild mood support. The evidence is Grade B, resting on trials such as Mori 2009 in mild cognitive impairment and Docherty 2023, so it is promising rather than settled. The quality point is the one that catches most buyers: use a fruiting body extract standardised to at least 30% beta-glucans, because the mycelium-on-grain products common online can be more grain starch than mushroom. People with a mushroom allergy should avoid it. On stacking, Lion's Mane pairs particularly well with Bacopa, described as the best cognitive synergy pair in the database, and works with citicoline too. The caution is anticoagulants, since it has a mild platelet-inhibiting effect worth flagging. It is mildly activating, so morning use suits it best, and a rare skin rash is a reason to stop.
