Fluticasone propionate (Inhalation), sold under the brand names Flixotide, Flixonase, Avamys, Flovent, Flonase, is an inhaled corticosteroid for asthma or COPD.
Fluticasone propionate (Inhalation) is an inhaled corticosteroid, prescribed for asthma and COPD. The class delivers anti-inflammatory effect locally to airway mucosa with limited systemic absorption. That is the point of inhaled rather than oral steroid prescribing. The systemic side effect profile (adrenal suppression, bone density loss, glucose effects) is much smaller than for oral prednisolone but not zero, especially at higher doses sustained over years. The relevant supplement signal is mostly mediated by CYP3A4. Fluticasone in particular is a sensitive CYP3A4 substrate. Strong 3A4 inhibitors (including curcumin at high doses, quercetin, schisandra, and bergamot extract) can raise systemic exposure enough to drive systemic side effects from a nominally inhaled dose. Vitamin D and calcium status matter for the bone density conversation during sustained inhaled steroid use at high doses.
